Fable (Xbox)

Peter Molyneux has brought us some amazing games. From
the god-like powers of Black and White to the genre-busting game called Populous. Molyneux’s most impressive project
has yet to come. Originally titled Project Ego, Fable is promised to give you choices in every aspect of your life. Will it
work? Will it be delayed yet again? Well, I wish I have the answers to those questions, but, sadly, all I can give you in
this preview is some information on the game.
Fable, a very immersive upcoming RPG, is said to have YOU making life choices. For example: you see a man and a woman,
ahem, doing "special things that adults do", if you will, but this woman is not his wife... it is his mistress. He offers
you a piece of gold if you never tell his wife what you saw. What will you do? The good option (tell him to get a life and
run to tell his wife), the semi-evil option (take the money), or the evil option (take the money, and still tell the wife...
which is my personal favorite)? In fact, more major decisions, such as choosing to wait outside a shop until the owner leaves,
and then killing him only to get his shop, is said to give your fully customizable character a paler look, and possibly give
your character tattoo-like rings on the side of his/her face.
Fable will also have real-time combat, making it appeal to a broader audience. You will be allowed to make your character
fight with numerous styles (i.e. magic, bow and arrows, swords, etc.), which is said to influence your job in the game. Yes,
you can get a job, have a family, be a hero, or just run the whole city. It’s completely up to you. Will you be an assassin,
hero, father, savior, wizard, bandit, shop owner, or evil bad-guy? Only you can decide your life...
So far the only thing I am slightly worried about is the story. How will it change when you do? Your character’s
parents were killed, and you want to do something about it... obviously this game isn’t about the story, it’s
about choices. You play as a child after the beginning, but soon after that, a whole New World opens itself up to you.
If all follows through on Fable and its September 21st release date stays, I won’t be leaving my house
much. Overall, I think Fable is a very interesting project, and I can’t wait for this game. I’m going to start
a new life... better start getting some sleep now...
